Ni no Kuni Pixel Art by DrewWise [Tumblr | Twitter]
Fun artwork for a game that I only recently became aware due to high praise from several of the gaming podcasts I listen to. I might not have the time to get to Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch right now, but that doesn’t mean I cannot appreciate things like this OR even go through and order this on a t-shirt from RedBubble.
Rayman Legends Promotional Art [Wii U]
As someone that’s just barely started to scratch the surface of Rayman Origins, I’m looking forward to picking this platformer up. It took me a while to get a hang of jumping and attacking due to how the characters control, but I did enjoy playing it using the Wii U GamePad. Like New Super Mario Bros. U, the touchscreen is used to help the main characters on the television, but I mostly killed enemies and moved environmental pieces around to help the characters get through the stage.
I’m not too sure how this will work if you’re playing by yourself or if this is ever announced for another console, but it’s a pretty interesting mode that keeps the helper engaged. Rayman Legends is set to be released on December 4th as a Wii U exclusive.
Artwork for World 3 - Nintendo Power Strategy Guide for Super Mario Bros. 3 [1990]
Let’s be honest here — the Frog Suit desperately needs to make a comeback to get through any and all Mario water levels.
Artwork for World 5 - Nintendo Power Strategy Guide for Super Mario Bros. 3 [1990]
Sky Land was my favorite world in this game due to being able to explore some hard-to-reach areas in the Tower Level if you use your P-Wing. Sure, the red air-beetle stages were annoying and Giant Land had monstrous Goombas to kill, but there’s only one level in the game that has Kuribo’s Shoe, and that’s in World 5-3.
“Super Mario Bros. 2 Sports Festival” - Nintendo Power #1 [July/August 1988]
More off-model art featuring Mario characters, this time showcasing each person’s unique abilities for Super Mario Bros. 2. To be perfectly honest, you didn’t really need to pick anybody but Princess Toadstool to beat the game. Sure, Toad was faster at picking up turnips, but the Princess could float the entire length of a football field!
Sidenote: I think Nintendo has really dropped the ball by not returning to the weird world of Sub-Con in any Mario title since. Will Wart ever make his return to challenge Mario, Luigi and rest of the the Mushroom Kingdom gang*!?
*spoiler alert: nope.
Cubone.
Here’s a Cubone! Enjoy.
Love it. Cubone was one of my favorite original Pokemans.
Solomon Grundy, Harley Quinn, and Batman - Injustice: Gods Among Us Concept Art
NetherRealm still hasn’t given up a release date for the DC fighting game, but I do enjoy how they’re taking their time with revealing the details. They announced Catwoman this week, but as of right now, it seems like they’ll be treating this as a Mortal Kombat game and let loose one or two names every month to build up hype.
I’m still interested, even if I’m not too amped up to play Injustice. I’m just waiting on the announcement of Plastic Man.
Jason Bright of the Bright Brotherhood.
I’m going to be uploading a video of me drawing this hopefully tomorrow, with commentary.
I’ve obviously been on a ghoul drawing kick, so I figured I might as well actually draw a ghoul character from Fallout. This is Jason Bright from Fallout: New Vegas. He led a religious group of ghouls, thus the religious imagery.
Enjoy the final drawing!
(?)
Love it.
Return of Ganon, by Game & Graphics
(Original graphics from Zelda II. The Adventure of Link)
Fun Fact: Similar sound effects of laughter used here for Ganon were also used in Punch-Out! for Bald Bull and Soda Popinski and the bosses in Kung-Fu.
Fun Fact Part Dos: This screen used to terrify me as a child.
