The NES 2 Advert [October 1993]

I never had the need to own one of these when they were in the stores originally but getting one on eBay years later was actually exciting as loved the redesigned look of the system and the controllers. I didn’t really need an NES system, but I used it to play through all the Mega Man games before selling the console to the mega-talented Party Time Hexcellent!.

You have to admit though, the doggie-bone controllers were pretty nifty.

Twelve Tales: Conker 64 Preview - Electronic Gaming Monthly #109 [August 1998]

There was a time where Conker was a cutesy squirrel that flew airplanes in Diddy Kong Racing (Nintendo 64) and saved his girlfriend in Conker’s Pocket Tales (Game Boy Color). However, the people at Rare had a change of heart somewhere along the way and completely redesigned the lovable furry animal into something with more of an edge, with more of a darker tone, with more…poop jokes.

This game would eventually be retooled into the excellent Conker’s Bad Fur Day, a title that had you search for a cure for the main characer’s massive hangover as part of the tutorial. Still, it’s absolutely amazing to see that Rare was sixty percent finished with making their original “disgustingly cute” concept into a video game.

Never forget.

Battletoads Advert - NES [1992]

This is one of those games that deserves a reboot or a downloadable HD Remix edition. There are STILL levels in this game that I’ve never been able to get to.

Litwak’s Arcade 1982 Commercial ft. Fix-It-Felix Jr.

Just got back from watching Wreck-It Ralph and loved how Disney slyly slipped these commercials for the fake games in the movie onto the Internet.

Fun movie.

Fired Diddy Kong Racing up on my Nintendo 64 today and could not believe that I forgot how great the music was in it. Absolutely fantastic track in a game that was incredibly tough to beat.

I don’t think I EVER managed to beat Wizpig in that final race.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time Advert - Super Nintendo [August 1992]

Picking off a Foot Soldier and throwing him directly at the screen is one of the more memorable “Whoa!” moments I’ve ever had while gaming. Then to actually use that tactic to beat Shredder later on — insanity!

Konami were Gods of the beat-em-up genre. It’s a shame that these games are dead.

I just hit the jackpot! All of my Nintendo 64 games! Two controllers and a memory pack!!

I think I know what I’m doing this weekend.

WWF War Zone Advert [July 1998]

Even though this game was a bit complicated when compared to the WCW/nWo World Tour Nintendo 64 title that was out a year before, WWF War Zone brought something to the world of wrestling video games that American audiences hadn’t seen before: a custom wrestler creation mode.

I have great memories of going to our school’s library and printing out pages and pages of wrestler formulas and then rushing home to try them out. Nine times out of ten they were GOD-AWFUL, but that was part of the fun.
